two gene epistasis

Discover the two-gene epistasis from your data!

EpiTrack is an online tool that uncovers the type of epistatic interaction between two genes. It does this automatically, just by pasting phenotypic data from an F2 population.

To start, paste the phenotypic data that you observe in an F2 population, created by selfing an F1 hybrid. Then, Epitrack compares the observed ratio to the expected one by applying a chi-square test.

Data should be categorical, like the color of the fruit or scores of disease resistace in a scale (high, moderate, low etc).

The tool returns three outputs: the statistics, the explanation of the best fit model and a bar graph with the counts of each phenotypic category.

Why it is important to know the type of epistasis

Breeders can configure the genetic makeup of parental lines or hybrids to ensure that the final product expresses the desired phenotype.

✅ They can design effective selection strategies that preserve necessary alleles through early generations. This is especially true for traits with recessive genetic control.

✅ It helps to predict phenotypic ratios more accurately, helping to design the population size.
